Food Pantries & Programs

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the City of New York operates food pantries with our mission being to directly serve our local residents who suffer from hunger and food insecurity within the city. Days and times of operation vary from location to location, and sometimes from week to week. We also operate late night meal service in a variety of locations. Please contact us for more information on our food pantry program and for days, locations and hours for our food pantries.

Overnight Camps

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates a sleep away camp for girls and boys ages 6 through 12 in a peaceful, rural setting approximately 70 miles outside New York City. The children are invited to spend a week in the fresh air and sunshine, away from cell phones and electronic games, where they can learn new skills and activities such as swimming, basketball, and scavenger hunts. The camp has been a part of SVdP for more than 40 years, staffed by responsible adults and teen counselors. Many of our teens have grown up with our camp, and often return to serve the younger campers as camp counselors.

Shelter for Homeless Women

SVdP has sponsored a shelter for the homeless at St. Ignatius Loyola since the 1970’s. Once a shelter for homeless men, we are now a shelter for women. Our guests are warmly cared for by a dedicated team of Vincentians and other volunteers. The women are welcomed in from the cold weekend nights throughout the winter months. If you are homeless, or know someone who is, please call our partnering drop in center at (212) 883-0680.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Vincentians bring dinner to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House while their children are undergoing treatment for cancer, or other serious illness, at nearby hospitals. The dinner and fellowship is a blessed relief to over tired and stressed parent and caregivers.

Prison Ministries

Manhattan Vincentians team with a New York City Jesuit group visiting incarcerated women and men in NYC and NY State prisons. They bring a sense of hope to the inmates which may have otherwise been lost during their incarceration. Inmates have told us anticipation of our Friday evening retreats were all that got them through the week.

Burial Assistance

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul believes it is our duty as faithful Catholics to bury the dead. We partner with several local funeral homes to supply a dignified burial for those without the necessary funds for a simple, direct burial.

Dewitt Nursing and Rehab Center Visits

Dedicated Vincentians make weekly visits to the residents of local nursing homes. They spend time talking to and praying with the residents, offering friendship and the Holy Eucharist.

Late Night Food Runs

We prepare food bags for the New York City homeless population, and deliver them to people on the street, at various locations throughout Manhattan. These meals can oftentimes be the only meal of the day for some of our neighbors.
